At Shikisai-no-oka in Biei, the stripes of the flower fields reach their deepest colour from early August into September.
If the stripes are what you came for, that August-to-September window is the one I recommend.
Shikisai no oka (四季彩の丘) means “the hill of four-season colours” — the stripes are planted fresh every year.

The photographs here are made from the paths and the edges of the fields;
the flower beds themselves are not entered.
In places the ground slopes quite steeply, and it is sand and gravel, so dress hems do get dirty —
so at Shikisai-no-oka we shoot standing, walking, moving. Sitting in the flowers belongs to other fields.

Around the fields, the patchwork hills roll out under the Daisetsuzan mountains.
Biei in one frame is colour in front of you and farmland to the horizon.

I photograph one couple a day in Biei and Furano, and choose the fields by the week, not by a fixed course.
